Dead island Act 1

Okay so here we are, another week and another game which we have been eagerly waiting for, Dead Island!

To get us started here are the pros

+ Graphically pleasing.

+ Weapons have a greater impact when precisely aimed at limbs and heads. DECAPITATION FTW!

 

And unfortunately a lot more cons to go through

- A lot of objects lack any physics

- Dialogue when you play as a woman still refers to you as a man

- The 100lb female character can kick a 200lb bodybuilder zombies ass

- There are elves in the workbench which require you to give them money in order to use it. >.>

- Loot, loot, loot, loot, loot, loot and did I mention your only getting around $5-15 unless it's a cash register and most of those are empty, it is bad enough that you have to loot everything 2 times, 1 to open and 1 to take whats inside.

- HAVING TO WAIT 3 DAYS EXTRA UNTIL GETTING IT AFTER AMERICANS!

Bodycount, mass killer or FPS thriller?

Welcome to a mix between Brink, the tactical class based objective shoot em up, and Bulletstorm (- the whip,- macho alpha male main character who thinks hes funny and a distinct lack of kickassness)
The environments, disappointingly, are not fully destructable (theres a shock *eye roll*) and enemies don't seem to want to use any of it anyway, prefering to stand out in the open while you take your time to head shot them. Your main character is part of "NETWORK" an organisation that tries to diffuse conflicts by assassinating targets, the player is one of these "assassins", at some point in the game you end up killing 10's of thousands of people and your partner a disembodied female computer voice says "We've done a little good, now lets do alot". I shudder to think at what a lot of good could mean for everyone else on the planet.
There are Skillshots in the game which require you to kill enemies in groups, tear away at their cover then kill them, these then add to your multiplier and increase your score.
All enemies drop powerups which allow you to use powers, run faster, endure more damage and even call in airstrikes.

Hail the dry humor of GLaDOS (Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System) the homocidal super computer.

GLaDOS (Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System) is a fictional character in the Valve Software Portal video game series. She was created by Erik Wolpaw and Kim Swift. She is an artificially intelligent computer system in charge of operating the Aperture Science research facility, which is the setting of Portal. While she initially appears to be no more than a voice to guide and aid the player, her words and actions become increasingly malicious, and she makes multiple attempts to kill the player-character. She eventually is revealed to be insane, having killed the scientists who ran Aperture previously with a deadly neurotoxin despite the fact that they installed a morality core in her ("You can always ignore your conscience"). She also appears in the sequel, Portal 2, taking place many years after the player-character defeats GLaDOS and being placed back in the chamber.

She was created after Wolpaw used a text-to-speech program while writing the lines to the video game Psychonauts. He found it hilarious that people were finding lines funnier just by the virtue of being spoken through this. While initially she was only intended to be used in the relaxation chamber, the first area of Portal, her role was expanded after being well-received by the game's developers. Wolpaw noted that play testers were more motivated to complete a chamber with her guiding them. While the game was intended to feature multiple characters, in the end, the developers made GLaDOS the only character that the player ever encountered. The physical appearance of GLaDOS had gone through several redesigns, including one with a large disk below her, before she was given a body. Ellen McLain was chosen to voice GLaDOS, and had to imitate the text-to-speech program using her own voice. She performed for the song "Still Alive", written by Jonathan Coulton, which played during the credits of Portal. The song has been a huge success, appearing in the Rock Band series.

Since appearing in Portal, GLaDOS has been very well-received, considered to be one of the greatest video game characters ever created. She was universally praised for her contributions to the quality of Portal's writing, winning multiple awards for best new character from GameSpy, GamePro, and X-Play. She has been described as a narcissist, passive-aggressive, sinister, and witty. A number of web sites listed her as one of the greatest video game villains, with IGN ranking her as the all-time greatest. She has been the subject of significant analysis, from both journalists and video game developers, with comparisons made between her and other evil or insane computers in fiction, including HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey, VAL from Solitary and SHODAN from the System Shock series. GLaDOS was also named the #1 Character who Defined A Decade by Gameinformer (issue 212).
